What a cozy winter scene.  It's really cold here today…3 degrees F. brrrrr.. cannot get warm.  (hmm..suppose I should stop sipping a Coke with ice then.)  Glad it's Friday.  Happy to be wearing jeans and a comfy new black turtleneck today.  Helping out at a concert tomorrow and get to drive the artists from the concert location to their hotel and back again!  What fun!!

Recovering from the flu so this weekend will be another low-key one.

  • Haircut_12-02-08

Here's a photo from last night for Rona who likes to see my hair straight the once-every-two-months that I get my haircut.  Kinda glad I didn't get the short bob that I was lusting after not long ago.

However, anyone have advice on straightening hair?  When attempting it, I end up with lumpy, bumpy hair that's kinda straight, and kinda "ummm..what's going on here?" hair.

The cleaned closet, originally uploaded by moline.

I love that this closet by “moline” is so neat and tidy! an inspiration as there’s a closet I will tackle this long weekend.

Have you ever had recurring dreams about any or all of these scenarios?

    * Suddenly am at college and need to attend a class or take an exam but I cannot find the right classroom and the semester is halfway over. WHY HAVEN’T I ATTENDED ANY OF THE CLASSES??

    * I’m in the tunnel system my college uses and I know the mailroom is around there somewhere. When I arrive, the woman behind the counter gives me a dirty look because mail has piled up for me in the 11 years since I graduated from the school. (OR since I haven’t attended all semester….either scenario).

*I go for a long run and feel as light as air. I look around and love the run and wonder why I don’t run more often? (NOTE: I usually wake up around this time and realized the easy running simply was not true. *sigh*)

*I have a few different “sets” or “backgrounds” of places I visit…that don’t exist in reality but they’re mighty familiar in my dreams.

  • Office - color 2

Added some color to my office this week with the cute mousepad.  Really brings out the color in the paper clip holder/dishes from IKEA.

    Happy Friday to you!

Am only planning a few things this weekend (coffee with a friend, taking a friend's kids to see the movie Bolt – because I giggle everytime I see that little hamster, and cleaning the apartment.  it always reflects the kind of week I've had. . this week with little time at home – the apartment is in need of some attention.  so I'll give it some.  and the reward for that will be to watch a quirky little film – can't remember the name.  Daisies, maybe.)

Can't remember where I found this but isn't it beautiful?

Love the rich red against the plain wall.

A coworker left to pursue other opportunities which leaves two of us covering her responsibilities – one of which was organizing and ordering supplies.  The person who left kept batteries in her desk drawer and would reluctantly dole them out if you needed them, often asking you what the batteries were for.  I'm now in charge of the supplies and sent out an email on Thursday to that effect.  The following took place this morning via email:

COWORKER: "Ahhhh..the new battery sherriff has been appointed!!"

ME: "Yes, you all are adults.  You may get your own batteries!"

COWORKER: "Good. I need 10 AA for my remote control car!"

I also inherited the kitchen clean-up at the end of the day and am assuming my coworkers are adults and can bring their coffee mugs to the kitchen to be put into the dishwasher.  (This will prevent my going from office to office saying "Mug?  Got any mugs?")

  • …and there's this deadline today at 9:30 AM.  Must get SM (senior manager) out the door to a critical meeting with two originals + eight copies of contracts and backup documents to distribute.  Two of us are working with him to get final corrections completed and copies made and sorted into piles to be finalized.

It's chaos. Paper is everywhere. Piles are, well, piling up. There's yelling amongst the three of us and The Person Who Pushes My Buttons (TPWPMB) just stands there, mezmerized… and is not contributing one darn thing.

SM finds an older document he needs to take with him. There's no time to make copies.  So I copy the cover sheet of both sections, with a note to self to make additional originals for the file.

TPWPMB moves closer to me and tells me to make copies of the covers of each document and says she'll remind me to print out the originals.  I was in the middle of doing just that (making copies) and tried to look up and formulate a response but no words exited my mouth.

[If my friend Kathleen had been here, she would have said the same thing she says to her three year old son, coaxing him to "use your words!!" when he's got strong emotions and doesn't know how to communicate what is wrong.  USE YOUR WORDS.  I needed to hear that.]

I look up at TPWPMB and look down at the copier and keep going.  It's not worth it to cause a scene and ask TPWPMB to please continue answering phones so that the group of three of us can continue finishing this project.

However, my blood began boiling (a little bit) after all was said and done and SM was out the door, documents in hand.

How does it help anything to stand there, gawking, and wanting to order people around, but we're fine on our own, thank-you-very-much??!

    breathe.  just breathe.

it’s friday! I’ll leave you with a photo by Rona (who has now moved to London!)

It’s one of those days. A coworker was laid off yesterday, colds are running rampant around the office.

An unexpected highlight is the reconnection (via facebook, of course) with a classmate from high school. It’ll be great fun to catch up with him soon.

This weekend is the usual mix of activities, errands, naps and time with family and friends. Hoping to rent “Forgetting Sarah Marshall” and watching my netflix film I’ve had at home for two months now… “Bella” and a best-of DVD of the Carol Burnett Show.

Got any big (or small) weekend plans?
