Carrie Can posted these photos from Habitat's catalog.  Habitat showed three decorating styles, and my favorite is the "domestic cool" style shown above.

It's Friday! The week has been a blur of work and youth group meetings and a family birthday dinner. My big plans for the weekend include sorting out the contents of my bedroom closet, begging my sister in law to go to IKEA with me again, decorating a table for the junior high girls – to attract their attention and make our table the Place To Be as they sign up for our small group at church.

I'm also out of the Proactiv Solution renewing cleanser which I use on my face…and am scraping the contents from the sides of the container…..and even dreamed about Proactiv last night…about the friend who works near the mall who stopped in to buy the cleanser for me and couldn't find it.  When she couldn't find the kiosk, I dreamed I went to the mall and found the kiosk near a big department store and there was a 6' tall display of a renewing cleanser bottle. Seriously? I dreamed of a 6' tall bottle of proactiv?  Sounds like a lifetime supply of it to me.  (I do love the product.  My skin used to be horrible..and now people are all "YOU use PROACTIV? WHY???"  precisely. I love it. But I don't want to marry it.)

What are you doing this weekend?

  • Wee girl - making it lovely

I am in love with this Wee Girl made by Nicole of Making It Lovely. The colors, the little flower, the cute bangs, that face.  LOVE it all.  If you visit her blog, she shows how the doll is made.

small IKEA bowls to add a pop of color to my office.

    Mimo - sleeping

niece mimosa napping on Sunday.  this was mimo's first sleepover at my house and her brother caleb's fifth time.  we watched Mulan, ate pizza, made smoothies, napped, played and went to church together.

    Mimo - hulk hands

mimo with Hulk hands.  this was at a family barbecue in honor of Mimo's mom's 30th birthday and did I get a photo of the birthday girl?  No…I did not…because I was holding little one year old Hudson who watched his mom get sung to around her birthday cake. Sorry Maya….but here's a photo of your daughter!

Hope you had a great holiday weekend!!

For yearbook photos of your own – through the decades – check out yearbookyourself.  Hmmm….that third one looks too natural.  perhaps I should buy some mousse and Aqua Net this weekend to recreate the look.  That last photo….need to learn to match my eyebrows to my haircolor. Second photo…is that a mask on a stick?  I didn't quite get that photo.  But that look.  It's hot!!! (the boys are lining up now!)

  • It's Friday. Before a holiday weekend.  Yippee!

A friend asked what plans I have for this weekend.  I replied that they are more "hopes" than "plans" as in:

    • I hope to celebrate my sister in law's 30th birthday with her this weekend.
    • I hope she and I get to take a trip (2 hours) to IKEA together.
    • I hope my friend Kathy and her daughter Catherine are free for a girls night out!
    • I hope there's a family cookout to attend Monday.
    • I hope I can get through all the library books I currently have checked out. (12 books)
    • I hope my apartment can stay sparkly clean all weekend!

Found some pretty house photos for you.  Am feeling the urge to take photos of little corners of my home that make me smile.  So I want to share those with you.  Soon.

  • Clueless Employee approaches my office stating loudly, "I DO NOT LIKE THESE THINGS. AT. ALL!!!"

The items in question?  Large paper clips.  Perhaps she was offended or hurt by large paper clips in her past and they're haunting her today??

I replied that I use them for my benefit – to hold the final document together with the backup documentation and to separate them from other documents with backup documentation.  (Thus a lesson in What Paper Clips Are For.)

CE didn't seem to understand and remained perturbed that I refused to give in to her request.

The situation remains unresolved.  Will keep you updated.

In other news, an email arrived in my inbox announcing the availability of two library books I'd put on hold.  Related titles?  Perhaps.

1   Sleeping arrangements / Madeleine Wickham.

2   Stiff : the curious lives of human cadavers / Mary Roach.

  • I have been paring down items in my offices – papers, old projects, old files I inherited with the job (over 3 years ago).  Finally it's starting to feel more at home.  Here is a glimpse of the office "before" and then "after".  I have more energy and motivation in the neater office.

Hmm..it's a bit "office taupe" for my taste.  Need to bring in color to make it more "me".

Above are photos from Janet Moran's Chicago apartment.  She and her husband are moving to Munster, IN, to a modern home there that cost the same as their condo yet is only 30 minutes from The Loop in Chicago.  Sounds like the best of both worlds. While I drool over photos of her new home in Munster and would like to make plans to move there mself if I could transport my friends, family, church and work there, I'll be satisfied if I can recreate the arrangement of photos in the IKEA clip frames above.

    +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

The weekend was full, interesting, and busy.  Found some great items at rummage sales (thus the twittered I LOVE RUMMAGE SALES on Saturday), celebrated Kirsten's birthday, and learned that it's not nice when a quiet girl behind you in line asks to go ahead of you but neglects to mention she's with a PARTY OF 10.  At least she was gracious enough to let us go back ahead of her so she could be united with her friends and family.

At another meal, the waitress spent the hour calling me sweetie, dearie, and finally BABY (she did NOT just do that!!!)  and I'd never met her before.  Not cool, DEARIE!

Found a Too Good to be True parking spot Saturday night at the lakefront with no fewer than three events occurring at the same time (a wine tasting, a multiple-famous-bands concert, and a museum event or Harley event or something) right at the water next to a fancy schmancy restaurant.  Wanted to sit in my car all night and savor my good fortune.

Cleaned on Sunday – in 3 minute bursts of activity….. because the leasing agent would be accompanying the fire department today and entering every condo/apartment and I wanted mine to sparkle and give of the homey impression that it's like this 100% of the time….the equivalent of someone dressing up in a fancy gown and then saying, "This ol' thing?  I just threw it on last minute."

  • Dear Creator of the Following Ad Seen on an Online Social Networking Site:

When creating an online ad to be viewed on a social site, AND you’d like the viewer to actually use your product, please refrain from using photos of “models” who have facial hair which quite distracts from the focus which should be, I don’t know, THE TEETH and not the hair around the teeth. (ugh. can’t believe I just used the words “hair around the teeth”).

    Thank you very much.

    Signed,

    A Concerned Internet Person
