• Clogs

    So I read a Dooce entry today…about clogs being the most comfortable shoes ever.  As I cross one dansko-clog-shod foot over the other, I am thrilled.  I scroll down the comments to find space to leave one myself, when I slowly realize that JON wrote the entry.  Not Heather (Dooce).  Crapola. She probably hates clogs.  I do wear my Dansko clogs almost every day to work…year round.   I favor those, flats and flip flops.

    EDITED:  I have now scrolled down Dooce entries in my Google Reader and found that Heather posted a photo of how she likes to keep her shoes and Leta's away from Jon's clogs.  Oops.  How could I have thought Heather posted the original entry?!

  • so – I had this little crush on Matt Locke of Design Star – all season.  I’m a sucker for a contagious smile. [yes..I know he’s not straight.] Anyway – I loved how in the last challenge – he bonded with the homeowner when she wanted the design to be minimal.  “I’m sorry, did you say MINIMALISTIC??????”, Matt asked…not able to be any more enthusiastic than he was that moment.  Loved it. And the dining room. I want it.  The table with the white chairs, the red walls, the striking light fixture.  Of course, it would help if I had a dining room!  {Yep – the episode aired over a week ago but I saw it again last night with family members who hadn’t seen it yet.}

    My sister in law and I are both minimalists…and so, apparently, is my one and only niece (age three) who takes after her mother and aunt.  I brought her a little pink pocketbook, er, purse, and she promptly informed me that she “already HAS a pink purse”.  I asked if she’d like to keep it; she thought about it and then slowly nodded her head in agreement – obviously going against her minimalistic tendencies.

    [This is the same niece who comes from an e-bay purchasing/selling family – thus when she plays store with a toy cash register, she doesn’t take every item you bring to her to purchase.  She’ll choose an item and declare, “This is going on ebay!” while setting the item aside.]

  • this weekend was all about the people.  playing cards at starbucks while snacking on snickerdoodle cookies the barista provided for us.  munching on pizza while playing games.  shrieking with laughter at the sarcastic commentary provided on the show Wipeout. enjoying moving music at church sunday morning. napping. (alone – not with people).  having dinner with family and enjoying the hand of Little Niece on my arm and her words “But I don’t WANT you to go!”

  • On vacation years ago in a college town in Colorado, I was exploring the cute shops downtown and saw from a distance this poor guy in a special wheelchair that was made to protect his head. I felt so very sorry for him! What must his life be like – having to be that protected all the time?

    *Ummm..yeah.* Turns out he was getting one of those Free Five Minute Massages in a massage chair that has you hunched forward with your face in that thingie – with the paper over it to protect you from the previous person’s germs. HE DIDN’T NEED A WHEELCHAIR AFTER ALL. WHAT KIND OF A SCAM WAS THIS??? oh yeah. just my ignorance about massage chairs ON THE STREET.

    Now, of course, they’re everywhere. But this was 1997. How did I know????

  • Just began another blog. This blog covers family and home.  The other will cover my work with youth ministry and more of my personal life.  You’re totally welcome to visit “pink + orange” whenever you’d like.

  • Frog dish

     Cute frog dish!!  Hello! I grew up in a house with a frog dish by the kitchen sink that held a scouring pad and/or a sponge.  No idea what happened to that frog dish.  Where could it be now???!

    This one was shown by Joanna Goddard.

  • Random laundry - opening night

    Tonight is Katy’s opening night!  She’s in Mikado!  I so wish I were in the Bay Area for a visit so I could go hear her sing!!  (She is one of the girls who flew to Vegas in June to help me celebrate a birthday!)  Before I moved to Wisconsin, I was able to hear Katy in her Senior Recital at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and she was phenomenal.  Beautiful voice.

    Congratulations, Katy!!!

    Love this photo of Rebekah’s bedroom.

    Her condo was featured today on design*sponge.

    Exactly the style I adore…. simple with an impact.
