    Flower + bowl in sink

Since Benita of Chez Larsson shares glimpses of her home, I thought I’d share a couple snapshots from my home.  Of the three bowls in the first photo, the white one is one my grandmother used, the red/white one is something I picked up in Marin County (California) and have used for years and years, and the blue one is a mixing bowl I never use – so thought it would be a nice container to hold the bread and baguettes.

Hmm..a lot of bananas.  They’re for the smoothies I make each morning (and wonder if my apartment neighbors are cursing the sound of the blender early everyday)!  One smoothie keeps me full until lunch.  The afternoon is a whole ‘nother story. By 3 PM, am quite hungry.

Can you tell lunch is near?  Must go scavenge for food (and if by “scavenging”, you mean “Drive to subway to pick up a sandwich and some cheetos,” then yes – I will be scavenging shortly).

  • BOOK Lets Give a Party 3

Found this book (published in 1960) at the thrift store on Saturday. Love the jewel-toned colors.  It’s the story of two children wanting to give their mom a great gift and throw her a birthday party. One photo shows pretty wrapping paper and the other image occurs after the cats take over the orange-crate-sewing boxes the boy made his mom. He imagined making a full house for his mom but was out of orange crates.  The decor in the house he’d like to build his mom includes colors I’d select today!  Spoiler: the kids decide to make Jello for their mom and the party is a success.

    • My closet is not the one above but it is in more order than it was four days ago! I found enough clothing items to fill a large moving box and some kitchen items I’m no longer using.  Gone – to the thrift store. [While I was there, a man drove up, handed the employees one sweatshirt, and drove away.  Hmm…interesting method of donating. I procrastinate until I have, well, a moving box full!]
    • I was kicked out of a blood donating mobile bus yesterday.
    • Walked around a Bastille Days festival and munched on a beignet.
    • Went swimming with Maya, Caleb, Mimo and Hudson (sister in law, niece and nephews) at the family pool at my gym.  Saw a woman with the Bahia haircut and said “Nice hair!”  We talked for a long while as the kids swam around us. She completely encouraged me to get the same haircut – saying it’s very easy to take care.  Of course, it helped that she’s utterly chic.  Hmm..wonder if she has a blog?!
    • Had a “Family Guy” night at my place…and all but one person who was invited had to work…so Elena and I laughed loudly at “Last Comic Standing” and a Family Guy DVD. (Pretty much anything Stewie said or did, we had to watch multiple times:  “cool hhwip”).

    How was your weekend?

  • I watched the TVLand series “She’s Got the Look” with interest as I just turned forty. I was intrigued by Bahia Haifi, 37, from the beginning – as she’s French-Algerian, stunning, and after her makeover – had the prettiest hairstyle.  She did not win, but I do hope she was signed with a modeling agency.

Here’s the style l’d like (even though I have fair skin, light blonde hair with natural curl, and blue eyes)(woah..that sounds like a personal ad.  Should I add that I like to cook dinner for two, go for long walks by the beach, and hold hands while ice skating in the park.  Smart, funny, kind, Christian guys can reach me at sunnysblog at gmail dot com).

Back to the hair.  Here are the photos I’m showing my stylist tomorrow.

UPDATE: I did not get this haircut yet…but will next month.  My stylist LOVED the haircut and thinks it’ll be quite flattering on me. Meanwhile, Bahia sent me this message: “Thank you so much, and please go for it! when you get a hair cut you get instant gratification and feel that you changed your life! Let me know how it went. ~ Bahia”

  • Bathroom storage

    Duplex - bathroom

    Nice storage bins

    1. Love, love, love the colors used here.  That storage cabinet – so very colorful and everything is neatly stowed away.

    2. Great storage and art under the sink!

    3. Sensing a theme here (the galvanized look) but I like the storage above the washing machine.

    Need your help, Creative Ones.

I have breakfasts down pat (smoothie – keeps me full until lunch); lunches are easy (sandwich = bakery bread + organic peanut butter + organic jam, veggies and fruit).

    Dinner = ????

I favor fresh foods – meats, vegetables, fruits, bakery bread and baquettes, dairy, pasta, rice…

  • I’m sure you’ve all seen the original.  Here’s a well done remake.

  • I’m at a Starbucks that is not “my” Starbucks.  Nephew Caleb leafs through a “Question of the Week” binder that people have written answers in.  Caleb adds a few of his own, then I look through the book.

“If you could be drinking Starbucks anywhere in the world, where would it be?”  Someone scribbled, “Next to a slice of ham.”

    Starbucks + ham

Wait…is that someone’s real handwriting where it says “Right beside my wife” – just below the question?!  Looks like a handwriting font to me.  Dude.  Points for your answer AND neat penmanship.

The word “Cambodia” filled in with crayon would be Caleb’s contribution.  He and his family may be living there someday!

Updated my blogroll. Will be adding more blogs to it soon.

If you’d like to have your blog on the list, please email me at sunnysblog at gmail dot com.

Now I’m off to bed. Hoping to have the discipline to get up at 5:30 AM to go to the gym – out of guilt. Ate a piece of a coworker’s birthday cake* + drank a large coke. Sugar. Need to work out.

[*Should a grown man – turning 55 – bring in a pink cake with pink hearts on it? We all agreed that “Somewhere, a little girl is missing her cake.”]

EDITED: I did not in fact get up at 5:30 AM but I did pack my gym bag and will be going to the gym before dinner tonight.

  • It was a good mail day! Magazines from Sweden and a pretty tea towel with Stockholm scenes from Benita. You’re so thoughtful, Benita, thank you!
