• Reading corner + cool wall art

    Office 1

Last night I walked at the gym (in blessedly cool air conditioning – outside was damp and humid), spent two 15-minute sessions on cleaning out the storeroom that is my bedroom closet, found kitchen items for the thrift store, and then browsed for at least an hour at Marie Claire Maison (do they sell this magazine in the States?).

I love the artwork in the first photo, the pop of color in the second photo and the personalized storage + pretty floral fabric in the last photo.  Wondering how to reconcile my love of all things white with bits of bright colors as well.

    How was your Monday?

  • Went to a family party on friday where my cousin Angie does an amazing job as a hostess.  She has such creative ideas: making lanterns from jars by putting white beans (maybe rice?) in the bottom of a jar, inserting a tea light, and hanging the jars with fishing wire from trees and from light fixtures in the back yard.  When asked about her style, Angie merely said she likes to keep it simple.

  • Nap 2

to borrow an idea from los at ragamuffin soul, I am about to take a nap.  I’ve organized the pantry, cleaned the kitchen, watched an episode of dexter (season 1 finale), and finally turned the air conditioning on. I am ready for a nap:

    bed unmade from this morning…check

    fresh pillowcase on pillow…check

    fan running….check

how do you like to take a nap?

I’ve been looking for these when in thrift shops and at rummage sales…anyone know where I can find these?

Awhile ago I did a series of photos of “a day in the life of” and used two of my little fisher price people…

Here’s another photo from my home. A new bag hanging from a hook I got from J.Jill years ago.

What are you doing this weekend?

I have a movie with a friend’s daughter (the Kit American Girl movie), a family party, a brunch, and a walk by the lake looking for sea glass.

  • At church on Sunday, we sang the Chris Tomlin song “How Can I Keep from Singing?” and the last verse reminded me of Uncle Buster who passed away last week.

    There is an endless song

Echoes in my soul I hear the music ring

And though the storms may come I am holding on

    To the rock I cling

How can I keep from singing Your praise

How can I ever say enough

    How amazing is Your love

How can I keep from shouting Your name

I know I am loved by the King

And it makes my heart want to sing

I will lift my eyes In the darkest night

For I know my Savior lives

And I will walk with You

    Knowing You’ll see me through

And sing the songs You give

I can sing in the troubled times

    Sing when I win

I can sing when I lose my step

    And fall down again

I can sing ’cause You pick me up

    Sing ’cause You’re there

I can sing ’cause You hear me, Lord

When I call to You in prayer

I can sing with my last breath

    Sing for I know

That I’ll sing with the angels

And the saints around the throne

The part that had me think of Buster was “I can sing with my last breath, sing for I know, that I’ll sing with the angels and the saints around the throne”.

  • 2 toads

I arrive home tonight and notice a toad blocking the foyer door. Fine. I step closer.  A second toad approaches the door and stares at the door. I open it a crack and he leaps toward the door..like “Let me in!!!”  We spend an entire five minutes this way….Toad #1 looks unconscious, Toad #2 staring the door down – willing it to open, and me, staring at the toads while wondering how to get inside.

I’m pondering my options:  get in my car and drive to the underground parking garage and come up inside into the foyer, thereby bypassing the whole toad/door situation altogether…. OR I could try to get the toads to move. I try to get the toads to move: I step closer…nothing.  I gently let some bark pieces land near the toads…nothing.  IF I STARE AT THE DOOR, SHE’LL LET ME IN.  LET ME IN. LET ME IN. LET ME IN. (that’s me, doing a toad voice)

As I contemplate texting Margie, the neighbor in the apartment to the left of the foyer…. a woman exits the patio door of the apartment on the right to get something from her car.  She barely glances my way as I’m taking photos of the toads but I wail, “I can’t get in!!!” and she doesn’t seem to hear me…

However, within seconds a girl opens their front door and almost opens the foyer door (which would crush the toads, I think) so I stop her…but she opens the door anyway and the toads merely hop away, shrugging, “We didn’t want to go in THERE anyway. It’s past my bedtime.  Nighty night.”

And here I drove home going, “Oohh…can’t wait to blog about my embarrassing moment tonight*.” Didn’t know drama was waiting on my front steps….literally.

*Was talking to a boy from the youth group tonight and relayed the conversation to someone else by saying – without thinking – “I asked him about his Wii” which if you say that out loud…doesn’t sound right at all. Sounds a bit questionable.  But you wanna talk questionable? As we left the bowling alley, an Unnamed Youth Guy yelled out to the group, “Everyone take care of your own balls!”, promptly turned pink and turned away to gain composure.  Awwww, Youth Guy, we still love you!

Organizational heaven – that’s what chez larsson’s house must be from all the photos I’ve seen of it. Benita is amazing at organizing. I’d ask her to help me but I’d have to fly her in from Sweden…not gonna happen. Although she will be in NYC this year. Hmmm..

So here’s how good of a niece I am. I called a cousin to see what I could do for the family after my uncle passed away last week. She says they’re okay then get’s excited about something and requests I bring gluten-free “twinkies” from a gluten free bakery a short drive from my place for her mom (my cousin) and her grandma (my aunt).

    **still following this?**

So I agree. Then find out on Sunday – the bakery is closed – and then I left too early Monday to get to the bakery before driving 90 minutes to the funeral. Turns out, my aunt and cousin were really, REALLY looking forward to those twinkies and I did not bring them any.

This story does have a happy ending though. I will get the twinkies and will drive them down to a July 4th party my cousin is hosting. So I’ll come through a week late. Better late than never?!

    I’ll be a better niece/cousin..I promise.

UPDATE:  I have the “twinkies” in my possession.  AND will surprise Phyllis and Jody with a container of regular twinkies and then a container of NEW chocolate twinkies.  All gluten free.  I tasted a sample of the chocolate one and it’s soooo yummy – whether or not you need to eat gluten free.  Molly’s Gluten Free Bakery.

bathroom + yellow, originally uploaded by sunnygirlwi.

Bought some flowers for the apartment last week. They’re brightening up my bedroom, kitchen and – here – the bathroom.

I favor the combination of cobalt blue and yellow. Ever since a friend decorated her studio apartment in those colors, I’ve thought of it as a striking combination and seek to use it in my apartment when I can.
