just working….and waiting for lunchtime to arrive. for it is then I will sneak away with my peanut butter + jam sandwich + carrots + a book to a cafe to sip an extra hot mocha.

tonight I will drive to a local diner to meet with fellow youth leaders to discuss how our small groups can make a big difference in this world by focusing on an area of injustice or mercy in the next few weeks.

then I’ll drive to church to meet with my junior high girls…to hear fourteen of them excitedly discuss their day, boys, clothes, shopping, boys and friends. eventually we’ll all settle down on the floor in various reclining positions on the carpeting into a discussion of sunday’s sermon from bryan, the youth guy, and the girls will once again amaze me with their insight and the depth of their thinking…

eventually, they’ll tire of the discussion and we’ll end by praying for each other. the girls will make their escape out to the gym to mingle with friends (boys).

if I can tear myself away from the church before late evening, I will watch last night’s idol show before climbing sleepily into bed.

what does your day hold for you?

  • space
    space
I love these spaces. Just looking at them makes me breathe that much easier during a busy day!

Here’s some good news for today: I put my clothes on the correct way this morning…nothing is backwards. There’s a bit of success to start the day!

Last night I was deciding whether to organize the front closet or tidy up the “teenager-must-live-here” bedroom of mine (HINT: piles of clothes and books define the room) when I went with a third option: watch an episode of Seinfeld and then fall asleep.

  • as you get ready today, don’t do what I did.

With five minutes to get ready after smoothing out the hair and applying lipstick, I tossed on the dress from yesterday morning and put a cardigan on, grabbed my purse, lunch and gym bag and ran out the door. (after opening it, of course)

and when I got to work, the receptionist said “oh..you fixed the neckline problem!!”

    uh..what?

hello! I put my hand up to my neck and what’s this? fabric? nice. let’s look..oh yeah. the tag is in front. *this genius put her dress on backwards today.*

  • It’s monday! The weekend flew by. I attended HUSH – a youth ministry prayer/fasting mini-retreat.  It was amazing and refreshing and thought provoking and life changing. Saturday was recovering from a youth overnight event.  Sunday was a standout message from bryan roe, the youth pastor… and then a walk, chinese food takeout and introducing the film Amelie to a friend who loves all things French to end the weekend well.

Sunday afternoon, Kathryn (see the previous post!) and I were waiting for a friend at church to complete a project, so we had some time to kill.  I wandered the church gym and found models willing to pose.  Who knew I had so many photogenic friends?!

    Meet Kathryn!

    • She’s a philosopher at age 16
    • She reads Nietzsche for fun!
    • She’s moving to a town far, FAR away.
    • She’s a talented artist
    • AND she can do this…

by the way, if you’re rendered speechless as you gaze at the photo, you’re in good company.  all kathryn and I could say as we looked at the photo this afternoon was "woah" then *SILENCE*. and another  "woah".

  • I was greeted by the site of my new officemate this morning…

He’s cute…but I don’t think I’ll keep him.  He has already moved on to another office.  Will he be near your office next?

I’d take this group as officemates anytime: students who were hanging out after youth group this week.

    happy friday!

  • Soothing_1

Love this image from Anita Kaushal’s book Family at Home. that I got from the library.  This corner is quite soothing.  So soothing I may have to recreate it in a corner of my office.

You hear about bedrooms being personal sanctuaries.  I hadn’t seen one until now.  How restful it would be to sleep here.

  • Church_explosion

During some road construction downtown in the city in which I work, a gas line was hit, a church (not my church, but another local church) exploded – leaving only a steeple, and the house next store started on fire.

I quickly learned that it is the house of a fellow media team member – a church staff member at my church (which is not the church that exploded).  The staff member’s wife was in the house but they got her out and she’s in the hospital at the moment.. the two kids were not home (thank goodness!).  The church is putting the family up in the hotel since the house is a loss.

Prayers for the family and all those involved with the church would be appreciated.

UPDATE:  Found out that the house next to the church has to be torn down..but also the house behind the church which is where one of the student leaders in the church youth group just moved into with his mom a mere two weeks ago.  So now two families from our church have nowhere to live.

  • what a kitchen!
Love this kichen for it’s airiness, the galvanized tins and the red fabric!
