• "nice" clothes, originally uploaded by the lulu bird.

Gina and I have talked about each wanting our homes to have empty spaces: on shelves, in closets, in drawers. We’d love our homes to have the look of a cute shop so this photo by the lulu bird reminds me to get going and pare down my belongings at home.

It’s not like I have too much stuff. A friend recently looked around and stated she could not believe how little I have. It’s true. I don’t appear to have a lot but if you look in baskets and closets, they’re not sparsely filled with what I need for the moment. I’d say three-fourths of what is hidden away is not necessary for daily life and is in fact being held "just in case".

I read a blog entry at zen habits in January about pulling everything out of a location you want to organize, and picking out just what you love to keep and have to keep, and getting rid of the rest (tossing or giving it away). I like that idea of selecting only what makes me smile and not worrying about the rest.

Any ideas for simple living and paring down to what’s needed besides the dozens of books out there on the topic)?

  • what’s a girl to do when she’s been sick and cannot complete sentences?  post video of her niece and nephews, of course! Thanks for letting me indulge in some cuteness overload:

    Here’s Hudson….age 10 months:

It was funny to hear Mimo on Saturday as I toured their newly renovated home [of which I will be posting BEFORE and AFTER photos of because the home is so pretty now!] because she has my "talent" for narrating what is happening in a room and joining in any ol’ conversation.

Thanks for the indulgence.  I’ll be back soon with plenty to write about!

  • Dollhouse_kitchen

Happy with Cookie magazine’s "Nesting" blog entries on dollhouses that readers are making.  This is an adorable kitchen!  I never had a dollhouse as a child…could be time to remedy that!

Speaking of kitchens..I was ordered to stay out of the kitchen last night!  In a conversation with a family friend who is a nurse, she recommended I try the "Nothing In" approach (fasting for twelve hours)  to help things settle down.

Why don’t you try the "nothing in" approach?

    okay. what about saltines?

    no, nothing in.

    hmm..what about water?

    nothing in.

    right.  a banana?

    no.  nothing in.

    okay. I’ll try it.*

    It worked.

*In hearing about this conversation, Gina reminded me today that if I’d overhead that conversation, it would have driven me nuts….. I’d have been going "what part of ‘nothing in’ do you not understand?".  Thankfully, Brenda was much more patient with me than I would have been. (hmm..did you follow that?) and we just laughed about my obliviousness.

Am quite the fan of “the 10 cent designer”!

    Still sick-ish.
    Hanging in there.
    Working the best I can.
Will write more later this week.
Took adorable family photos this weekend.

  • Living_room_office_corner

photo from emma’s blog.  if you’ve been to my apartment, doesn’t this look like something you’d find in my office?

I am out of it for the day.  Woke up at 3 AM quite ill… and was miserable until noon.  Have been napping since then..and may watch a movie.  My friend Kathryn stopped by with nourishment, supplies and conversation – all welcome since it’s been a quiet day here.

Unrelated…I saw Fight Club last night with friends who adore it and must say I did enjoy it. How could I have missed this movie?  I want to see it one more time because there are more details than I caught from the first viewing.

Here’s hoping you’re having a lovely Sunday evening!

  • K: ooooh, I smell COOKIES!

    S: Well…not in my apartment, I haven’t been home.

K: That’s both good and bad: bad because someone may have broken into your place, but good because they baked you cookies. Which is bad in that who knows what they put in the cookies? But good because, ‘Hey…cookies!’

    nice. books.

It’s friday. guess what? when you don’t get enough sleep all week, you may end up walking around quite out of it. just thought you’d like to know. you may not be able to complete sentences, think clearly, have control over your emotions, or write out emails of any length.

On the other hand, crawling into bed at 9 PM and awaking leisurely at 6 AM leads to clear thinking, a peaceful heart, and happiness when you realize that it’s truly Friday and the weekend looms in front of you.

What to do? Perhaps a birthday dinner out of town, quality time with your nephew, a st. patricks day party, and time with friends to watch the latest demitri martin dvd?

    happy friday.

It’s Wednesday!  Cannot wait to be at church with my girls and other friends tonight!!!

  • Two classmates re-connecting over lattes and discussing high school reunions:

    HIM: "Let’s see..graduate at 18, 10 year reunion at 28, so at the 15 year reunion we’ll be 33."

HER: "33.  What a SAD number.."

SILENCE     "…I mean, people start DYING at 33."*

HIM: "Well yeah, you gotta factor in car accidents, ODs and all that…"

    SILENCE

HIM (excited): "I cannot WAIT to pull up in my Rolls Royce and show them I’m NOT a loser!!"**

*Perchance was she thinking of Jesus dying at 33?

**Current Occupation: Playing video games full time at home.
