Thus begins a Pioneer Woman Cooks’ post (part 3 of 3) showing how to cook a delicious steak for a Valentine’s Day meal. I don’t know any boys to cook for but may cook for some friends. The meal looks delicious! The conversation between spice bottles made my long day a bit brighter!

A curvy, country road connects the few miles between the freeway and my apartment. Last night I was in a hurry to get home and went a tad too quickly. I ran into snow that had drifted onto the road, spun out and ended up in a snowy ditch.
Drivers of four pickup trucks (I live in the land o’ trucks) stopped to see if they could help, if I had a cell phone and a car that was running (to keep me warm in below zero temps). I was fine…just stuck.
Six phone calls later to friends and suddenly three pickups arrive. A man from church brought two friends..and 45 minutes later, I was driving home. A sheriff had arrived just as my car was getting pulled out. I was nervous (who doesn’t get nervous around a sheriff?) but he was there to apologize for not arriving sooner. They’d received a lot of calls about my situation. (awww… how nice).
So I’m home in a warm apartment, and thankful that it didn’t happen around the next curve – where the ditch falls sharply below the road…and the story might have had a different ending.
I’d like to opt out of anymore car drama in 2008. Please.
EDITED: No laughing, please. I am now a member of AAA – a guy from church works there and got me a good deal….and during the paperwork phase, he said, "So when you get in trouble again, here’s the roadside assistance number……" THANKS A LOT! I did put AAA in my phone for the next auto emergency. Because you and I know, it’ll happen sooner rather than later. Four to six more inches of snow expected tonight.

I got to hear this comedian tonight. I laughed and laughed – along with 800 other people. I highly appreciated that his humor is clean. And he’s still hilarious! He has a blog, a newsletter, cartoons, and videos .
He mentioned in passing some endearments he calls his wife…including "sugar booger"… and said it a couple times. I glanced over at the translators doing sign language just in time to see one translator’s version of "booger". You put your pointer finger up near your nose and twist it from side to side. there. booger. sugar booger. Sadly, Daren did not get to see this, but when I ran into him later I mentioned the signing and insisted he find the man who was doing the translation for the deaf and see the translation for himself. I found out later that the "man" doing the translation was a woman. I had been sitting so far back in the room that I couldn’t tell who was doing the translation. oops.
Sophisticated and chic, no?

Everywhere I turn [online], I see references to Pioneer Woman. I finally subscribed to her blog, and it’s amazing! Witty writing + clear directions & recipes + amazing photos = my new favorite blog. Am currently reading Black Heels to Tractor Wheels: A Love Story – how she met her husband of 11 years.
I will be making a roast in the next two weeks thanks to the Pioneer Woman. Sounds like a good weekend project.
OOOHHH it’s Friday! [the fact is registering in my brain.] That’s nice.

After being snowed in yesterday, I resolved to leave early this morning. Here’s what really happened:
7:15 AM Left my apartment to get a little everything-bagel-with-onion & chive-cream-cheese for breakfast before work.
7:20 AM Got stuck in a snowdrift while attempting to leave the underground parking garage + faced another car stuck trying to enter the garage. Backed in while avoiding a fishtail maneuver into the brick walls.
7:30 AM Discover that two women using little snow scrapers does not dig out two cars from the snow.
7:45 AM Gratefully accept help from another neighbor who’d like to leave for work. As we’re all clearing snow from around the tires, I hear the woman say to her son, "Let’s pray and see what happens." I think, "Well..it’s good that they want to pray…I’ll keep working." Then I hear the other neighbor say, "OK!!" and I think "Wow, he’s going to pray too?" Right. No. Turns out the woman said "Let’s TRY and see what happens." Good ears there, Sunny!
8:00 AM The other two cars have gotten out and it’s now my turn. Back way up into the garage and speed toward the garage entrance and YESSS victory! Got up the little hill and through the snowdrifts to the road. It’s about time.
SERIOUSLY? Leaving 45 minutes early to commute had me arriving 15 minutes late?! Saw the patio table above and had to snap a photo for you. Can you even believe it?!

Liking these home office photos from an angel at my table – the jars, the clock, the inspiration board, the utilitarian file cabinet.
I keep thinking it’s Wednesday. Couldn’t make it out of the house on the real Wednesday because of the snowstorm that hit most of the area of Wisconsin that I’m in. So it was a relaxing day of laundry, baking cookies, watching "In the Land of Women", reading and working on taxes.
enjoying these lately…
aesthetic outburst (new to me)
