Snow fell last night and I had to drive in it.
The snow was mesmerizing as it fell horizontally!
I couldn’t look away.
Tried to take a photo of the snow for you, but all I got was the highway sign above!
Glimpses of beauty and simplicity around the world.

Here. (drumroll???!)
I bought an IKEA shelf unit.
Started to put it together.
Got confused by the little drawings (read too much into them).
Let the whole thing sit out in the living room.
Told LoRen..who had her husband call me since he puts together IKEA furniture for a living!
Instructions clarified.
Unit assembled.
Items installed on the shelf unit in my office.
There. That wasn’t so difficult, was it?!
No wonder I need a quiet night at home or immersed in a new movie at the theater.
aww…thanks you guys!
a lot of you wrote in to let me know the battery needed to be replaced. I appreciate it.. I now have a supply of 9-volt batteries so I won’t have to live with beeping any longer!!
After posting about Anne Black’s white apartment, I wrote to her to rave about it some more. She kindly sent a response:
We definitely don’t have enough closets in the apartment which makes it an ongoing challenge to keep the look nice and simple. We need more space as we are four people in 80 square meters [860 square feet]…. And actually I am not very good at paring down belongings and hold on to clothes, magazines, shoes far too long too. I simply use white boxes to keep all that mess in and that helps a bit to keep the clean look.
best

last night: I arrived home last night..to find a beeping smoke alarm….. It beeps EVERY 30 SECONDS and was like having someone remind me twice a minute that TIME IS PASSING! Get SOMETHING done!
I brushed my teeth. BEEP washed my face BEEP went to sleep BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP for seven hours. "Well, hello, beep…how are ya to…" BEEEEEEPPPPP.
Bleary eyed, I look into the mirror before attempting to make myself presentable as I head to a work event at 6:30 in the morning. I did my best. was happy to leave BEEEP behind for the neighbors on all sides to enjoy the remainder of the morning. Feels like I have a roommate.
I saw these photos of artist Anne Black on Emma’s blog yesterday and was impressed for these reasons:
I’ve gotten rid of most of the clutter in my apartment so this post by Emma arrived at a great time. I’d like to pare down my belongings even more. (I have small appliances in the kitchen I don’t use; I’ve a hunch the four small bins in my bathroom closet are filled with little things I don’t need. As always, paperwork, photos and tear sheets abound in a few baskets of their own.)
here’s my niece wrapped in my scarf….being all cute.
and here’s her little brother….. as he meets his new teddy bear.
holy. cow. can you hear my heart thudding from both coasts?
this is way cooler than the the similar shelving + baskets I had planned for my closet. I’m particularly fond of the basket on top of the shelving. I like all the white and the wire basket and the not-sparkling-new shelving. (hmmm..can I store my three pairs of shoes in a similar manner?)
my bedroom is about this size…. now to find some similar furniture!

Digging this room – the airiness, the simplicity.
Saw the photo while reading an excellent blog post at Zen Habits on a four-step method to simplify your life. The four steps include:
1. Collect everything in one place.
2. Choose the essential.
3. Eliminate the rest.
4. Organize the remaining stuff neatly and nicely.
Suggestions are included as to how to organize a junk drawer, a closet, time commitments in your life, your desk, a room, and your wardrobe. Worth checking out.
I am not a mom but you can’t argue with this mom’s logic – set to the William Tell Overture. I’d never heard it, but about 5.4 million of my closest friends have. enjoy.

oh…HAPPY FRIDAY to you!
I’m happy it’s almost the weekend…how ’bout you?
I love this photo because it’s soothing – you have to have time to yourself to enter items in a planner or write a letter.
I’d like to write a letter or two this weekend, attend my company’s post-poned Christmas party, connect with youth at church after the holiday break, and begin work on a two-closet-IKEA makeover if I could just get the darn pieces together for the shelf unit. I’m stuck so it all just sits..lookin’ all pretty-like.
