Happy New Year! After the odd Friday morning, the rest of the day was great – as was the weekend. Friends stayed overnight Friday night and my mom visited all weekend. We drove very little, and alternated working on a 1000-piece jigsaw puzzle, playing shanghai rummy, eating fresh meals cooked at home, and watching episodes of Fringe. (I'm addicted to the show but I'm not so sure my mom likes it as much as I do. Perhaps my attachment to the show is due to a little crush on the actor who plays "Peter Bishop" or my enjoyment of the frank, funny words by "Walter Bishop".)
My mom enjoyed her time so much that she declared it a vacation and wants to visit me once a month. Sounds good to me!
How was your weekend?

Happy (almost) New Year! New Years Eve day has started out a bit oddly. Very low visibility while driving at 5 AM due to intense fog. Then a group of deer (at least four) almost ran out in front of my car – but they actually saw me and turned around. *whew*
I then saw no other cars on the road as I made my way to the gym for an early morning aqua class. However, as I got out of my car in the near-empty parking lot of the gym, I heard someone ask me a question. It was a young man traveling on foot who was confused, lost and possibly drunk – possibly drunk because he could not understand even the most basic of directions I was giving him to the grocery store (half mile down the road) that he was looking for. What comforted me was someone who parked her car next to mine and waited while I answered the boy's questions. I felt safer that way. Found out later that this woman is a gym employee who was actually running 45 minutes late to work – but I'm glad she was. After I told the story to the front desk employee and we called the police (as a just-in-case measure), I bumped into a former coworker I haven't seen for years!
I don't want to ask "What else will happen today" but really, what will happen?!
I'm happier at the moment to turn my attention to these two homes found on IKEA's real family website. Here are more photos of the homes.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! Be safe and enjoy the weekend!

I really enjoy glimpses from one room to another. It's how I set things up in my own home – how they will look when viewed through the doorway. So I enjoy this glimpse into a French kitchen via Les petite choses de Piou.
Pia Ulin has a book out called "Nesting" which features Swedish homes. Looks delightful!
"Nesting is a book consisting of 26 interesting homes. The Swedish version of The Selby! They have been documented over a period of 7 years, randomly chosen by the authors; Cilla Ramnek and Pia Ulin. The places and images are for real and not staged in any way. Exept for Cillas spontaneous styling with some of the home-owners things. The images always shot with the conditions provided by the space and light that existed only then. Please be inspired by these amazing homes."

I have the same floral pillow in the last photo. I love it so much it travels from the living room to the bedroom and then back to the living room.
It's the day after Christmas and I finally have internet access again but am super thrilled that I not only have internet again (hello, everyone!) but that I agreed with the cable company rep that I should try the high speed internet access they offer. It's so fast my old access must have been on par with modem-dialing and how it used to be years ago.
Today has been an off-kilter but quiet day off at home. I spent a couple days with family and they were chaotically perfect. It is so much fun to see kids open up gifts and even (my three year old nephew) get choked up when opening particular gifts. The children's high over the gifts and then the sugar high from the candies in the stockings led to a particularly loud Saturday – which was wonderful!
How was your weekend?
My Christmas gift to myself was to rejoin the amazing YMCA that is in my city. I love the pool and the hot tub, the running track, the camaraderie with the other members that you see regularly, and all the weight and cardio machines you could ever want. I even tried an aqua zumba class last week. HAHAHAHAHA. so much fun and you can't be self conscious while trying it. (google it.. either zumba or aqua zumba). the music makes you giggle and move your body.
So now that I can be online again (it's like a lifeline for me), I'll be around more often. What's new with you?
This organized goodness from "the good fairy" makes my heart go pitter-patter. Then the pretty blue and white decor for Christmas makes me smile.

Today I'm loving the cute, clever scene by Amy at Sweet, Sweet Life and this holiday home tour by Old Brand New (who can do no wrong in my book. I adore every way this home is styled!). Here's a beautiful mobile by Old Brand New.
Merry Christmas to you and yours!!!!

Jenny from this humble abode was on design*sponge with some creative gift wrapping ideas. I adore that first photo because of its cuteness and the pops of color! And because I have some wrapping left to do. I admit it. After seeing this post, I'm going to say that my procrastination has been rewarded because now I can do some mighty colorful wrapping.
That first photo – I thought it was a doll's house with a tinier doll bed… and then realized it's really a child's bedroom! How lucky is the little girl who lives in this room?!
It is the week of Christmas. I took a vacation day yesterday and have one more on Monday – and that will be it for the year. I did have a productive morning in that I joined my former gym which I missed terribly and couldn't afford to join again until this month. This gym has a water fitness class I adore – keeps me from having to do aerobics in a studio where you sweat and sweat. Plus I'm addicted to the smell of chlorine. It just makes me smile! So to be able to attend an early morning class in the pool, relax in the hot tub then get ready for work – it feels like a luxury!
I also enjoy using the indoor track to walk miles in a week – because if I walk outside – there's too much ice and snow and I already fell once this weekend. Just have some bruises but that's why I don't walk for my health outside!
The gym also has this family pool area with a water slide – so it's fun to meet my friends there who have kids – and we have a jolly time as if we were on vacation – but we can do it on a Tuesday night or a Saturday morning. Anytime we wish. Such fun.
I do have some Christmas shopping left to do. A few Lego kits to purchase for some nephews and some creative thinking to figure out how to give cash to some other nephews. Must put on my thinking cap for that one.
Are you ready for Christmas yet?
Love this girl in the photo. I used to be just like her and have been like her this weekend. I've had the sniffles for two weeks now – and am wondering if it's the downing of some EmergenC each day that has kept the sniffles from turning into A Real Cold.
Meanwhile, napping has been the order of the weekend – along with watching Fringe (season 2 – am captivated by the show….), About a Boy, Notting Hill..and reading Hunting and Gathering by Anna Gavalda.
The one thing on today's agenda is to go to church.
Then the weekend routine will continue – along with baking muffins and calling friends around the country to catch up with them.
What are you doing this weekend?
