Melissa in Oslo was interviewed by NIB about her apartment.  One of her replies (translated into English by Google Translate) is:

"I feel I have a balanced mix of old and new," says Melissa. Actually, I'm not a flea market type, but prefer that I have of old furniture and objects are inherited. Many of the older stuff I have is from the grandfather, he traveled widely and knew many.Grandma's stuff will also live on here, and I really appreciate.
Rock and the mustard yellow pad is inheritance, and to give the apartment even more of the good charm it deserves."

It's Friday! Good day to list some favorite blogs!

momstory: I'm not a mom but you know –  Irene Hoofs of mom story includes such great profiles of moms around the world….glimpses into homes and lifestyles……I love that. This recent post on mom story led me to a blog post that offered much encouragement to me and some friends of mine.

shimandsons: sally is about the most talented, creative person whose blog I read. I admire her handmade items she makes for her boys, for their friends and teachers and for her own friends.  I've made many projects based on variations of sally's creations.  this girlfriends gift is one of my all-time favorites.

how to be chic:  fiona shares her viewpoint on, well, how to be chic!  she and I are both part of a french chic group on yahoo…a group that admires the chicness and lifestyles of those who are French. (bet ya didn't see that coming!)

journal of a nomad: rachel (a college friend) is a stunning photographer whose photos draw you into the story being told. I often want to jump into the photos and join rachel's friends as they relax on the porch – or pick flowers – or celebrate a wedding!

sweet, sweet life: amy has such a gorgeous blog – but she has recently gone through a huge transition in her life…and to follow her journey has been something special.  she's such a great woman and her house – gorgeous.

    Light-filled.

    Spacious.

    Pretty color choices.

    Nice.

  • Sharing this kitchen corner from last year.  The colors! It's just charming and adorable.

Okay – seems as if "charming" and "adorable" are my two most-used words on this blog in 2010!

In other news, I'm THRILLED that the San Francisco Giants won the World Series last night. My friend Bobby works for the Giants and I'm sure he's been waiting for this trophy forever and a day! Very happy for him and for my former city! (I've been a Giants fan since my first day living in SF in 1996. I may now live in Brewers-land but my heart truly is in SF.)

Posted on this very blog last year from the house the kitchen belongs to: house obsessionI'd forgotten how much of a transformation the kitchen makeover was!  Here are additional "after" photos.

My friend Sharona now lives in London…and probably will forever!  (note to self: plan trip to London to accept Sharona's invitation.  ask sharona if we can pop over to Paris as well.)  I was minding my own business yesterday when the mail arrived with something from The Queen!  Or not.  It was a package from Sharona which held the teacup and saucer you see above.  She'd snapped a photo of it at a market and we both "ooh"-ed and "aah"-ed over it…but she sneakily told me that the prices were outrageous. Thought that was the end of that.

Sharona's note accompanying the gift said that she inflated the prices just to throw me off – as she was intending on surprising me.  What a sweet friend!

If you have any London secrets to tell her about (cute little shops, flea markets, hidden gems), you can find Sharona on her blog, Today I Wrote Nothing.

  • Annelies - wedding photo

Isn't this photo beautiful? My former housemate from San Francisco (and current friend!) Annelies got married two weekends ago!

AZ used to have separate food and poetry blogs but is now focusing exclusively on la vie en route. She is a gifted writer with so much style; you'll adore her! I'm thrilled she graciously allowed this photo to be shared here!

What a charming transformation of a plain boxy apartment into a thing of beauty. My favorite two things are the orange door and the guest room linens!

Stumbled upon these Selby photos of Gina and Glenn's kitchen.   Isn't this a well-loved,  well-used airy kitchen that has all one would need to cook an amazing dinner? The whole house and grounds are gorgeous but it's the kitchen that captured my heart.  Can one ever get enough glimpses into how people truly live?!

Am very excited that the weekend has arrived and that I have zero plans. It's a rare weekend with time to sleep in, putter around the house, take my time at the library, bake something yummy (not at the library), read a novel or two and maybe try some creative photo-album-ing as seen on Dos Family this week.

Finally saw The Social Network last night and really liked the movie.  Curious how much is reality and how much was speculation about how it really happened.  My favorite scenes were the opening dialogue between the couple and the closing scene's conversation.

Happy weekend to you!  Are you doing something exciting or something more low-key?
