  • Elle decor mag - kitchen 1

Spent tonight decluttering an embarrassingly untidy dining area which doubles as my entryway.  Thus I removed dozens of items that don't belong there….but seemed a great place to dump bags at the time. ("the time" being every night for the past month!).

Then with the temps outside being 83 with high humidity requiring my cleaning uniform to be a cami and shorts, I attacked the floors in the kitchen, dining and living areas – sweeping and vacuuming with such vigor that I had to sit down for a moment after admiring the clean living areas.

I began to catch up on my blog reading (subscribing to 200 subscriptions in Google Reader doesn't seem like such a wise idea now…I always feel behind in my reading)…..and this is the first post I saw on  Ellmania.  I liked every picture so much it almost hurt my head! (how crazy is that?!)

My favorite thing in kitchens is mixing rustic with modern…and the baskets in this kitchen made my heart stop.  Well, almost.   And the jars lined up?  So great.  Just sayin'.

Check out the offices of Grid/Plane & Instrument in Portland!  I have scoped out my future desk and it is in the first photo…one of the desks against the wall.  Imagine the creative, productive days you could have working here!!  SpacePDX ["Neat people and the spaces they grace."] is one of my all-time favorite online reads…as they highlight some of the most creative workplaces with such gorgeous photos.

Beautiful, colorful, organized home! Beth's house was featured in an Apartment Therapy house tour. I love it!  Hadn't thought of turning baskets sideways to use on shelves to containerize items.  Brilliant idea!!

Just spent a long weekend away on two trips: one to see a friend and one to see family. Felt like I was far, far away on vacation all weekend. At a friend's who lives on Lake Michigan, we walked along the beach, collected sea glass, lounged on the deck, ordered in Chinese, started watching "From Paris with Love" but felt lost from Minute 1 so we gave up and watched Tommy Boy instead! Spent Saturday at an art show, chatting with artists and buying some art.

On Sunday, I went to see family where our two days together included playing cards, watching the Squeakquel movie while five year old Mimo danced to all the songs, eating out for my birthday dinner, going for long walks and getting to watch the three year old, five year old and twelve year old get their first swim lessons!

Such a long, relaxing weekend. We all agreed it should be repeated this same time next year!

How was your weekend and Monday?

am writing on a new blog in addition to this one.  just daisy is about my process of letting go of pounds and clutter from my body and my home because I deserve to live in a tidy home that I love coming home to and running around in a body that is strong!

so naturally pretty photos will remain here (well..there might be some over there too) and then at just daisy, there'll be stories (mine and others), photos of in progress projects, before/afters, and just inspiration to keep things sparse and clean.

  • Brinson_10

This kitchen – with its dark paint, wooden crates, baskets and wooden island – is just what I would want for my kitchen.  Maxwell of Apartment Therapy noticed a trend of darker paint colors being selected for homes, and I can now see why.  It contrasts so prettily with the rustic accessories and furniture!

Am a sucker for hooks on the wall.  These are no exception.

  • Images of a home that will be in a new Paumes book. I’m a reader who usually has about three books going at one time and always have a book with me no matter what. (Feel naked without a book, lipgloss, cell phone and keys when I leave the house.) Am a fan of the colors in these photos and the rows and rows of books!

Speaking of books, I’m halfway through the Molly Ringwald book I mentioned last week. It’s pretty good! Her goal is to help you become the confident woman you can be..and to bring back the pretty from when you were young. Plus she talks about her life since making those movies as a teenager and then living in France. I can’t be the only one who was curious how her life has turned out so far! I’m reading a library copy of the book but will be purchasing my own copy to own.

Yippee! It’s midweek already! That means the weekend is on its way. It’s my birthday weekend and am still figuring out what will be going on. What would YOU do for your birthday weekend?

  • Pioneer woman - granita

Here's a gorgeous photo of granita taken by the Pioneer Woman.  It looks so deliciously icy, I could go for one right this minute!  When did May bring 90 degree temps and high humidity – and carry over into June?!

I suppose what will make it tolerable is granita like this, cool swimming pools and lakes, driving around with the sunroof open, meeting friends for ice cream cones, and lying out on the lawn, watching the clouds go by. Hmmm..maybe summer isn't so bad after all!
