Some photos found this week that made me smile.  Just finished an intense water class that left me out of breath (good workout, I suppose!) and am now heading to a friend's rummage sale before going to run errands and pick up a Jimmy John's sandwich for lunch.  I crave Jimmy Johns fresh food but don't live near one of their locations.   May visit Bastille Days in Milwaukee this weekend as well.  Hope your weekend is going well!!!

  • Apartment - gathering 1
At least once a week you'll find teens from church hanging out at my apartment. One night, it was all about orange soda + oreos + nachos + the game apples to apples AND twister.  Strangely enough, it was the guys who enjoy the twister game which left the girls on the floor quite amused by it all.

  • Great photo from Nestled In..and it shows perfectly partially what I have planned this three-day weekend: reading, watching movies, journaling.

The other half of the weekend includes swimming, walking, working at my mom's house, and running errands.

But at the moment, reading and napping sound just right to me.

  • Organizing book 1
On m.writes, marta mentions a personal organizing workbook. I checked my library but the system doesn't have the personal organizing workbook but did have the home organizing workbook.

These photos are from the first few pages of the book. With containers so good looking, I knew I'd enjoy the book.  So far, I am in the kitchen section and took the quiz, thinking there was nothing to organize but really, some cupboards are in disarray and the quiz helped that come to light.

Am off work Friday, so I'm being hired by my mom to help her declutter and simplify – before she moves at the end of the year.  Luckily I'll have this book in tow as well as the Zen Habits blog principles for simplicity to use when tackling a full closet.

    Organizing book 3

    Four Laws of Simplicity

    1. Collect everything in one place.
    2. Choose the essential.
    3. Eliminate the rest.
    4. Organize the remaining stuff neatly and nicely.

The weekend holds some movie watching (library DVD's  - Return to Me & Must Love dogs.  Netflix: a french film), a cookout, working as an organizing consultant, church, and some reading and walking.  Have a great long weekend!

  • Pretty office

As someone with a home office in progress, I found this photo inspirational in many ways:  the chair's beautiful fabric, the stacks of books, the binders with the pink labels on the side, the gorgeous lampshade…

Photo by Graham Atkins Hughes via Abigail Ahern who states, "Using furniture that isn’t typically home office allows this workspace to blend with the rest of the room. Colour coordinated files and stylish storage boxes keep stressful clutter at bay and are used in tones that complement the overall decor."
  • Ashley + phil busbee

I haven't posted in days because of long days at work and honoring commitments and also because this past weekend I received the news that my former pastor, Phil Busbee,  (from when I lived in California) and boss (was on staff of the church for a few years) passed away after dealing for years with diabetes and other health concerns.  He's pictured above with one of his daughters, Ashley.

My thoughts and prayers have returned to his wife and two daughters – as well as his family and the church members – repeatedly, so I have been preoccupied in thought. Hadn't realized what an impact he'd had on me until now – when his absence seems so strong.

I visited San Francisco in May and had the chance to hear Phil preach and spend a half hour or so with him the next day when he was between appointments.  Didn't think much of it until I received the news Saturday of his passing and realized THAT was why I was meant to go to SF in May and not in September which was my other option.  I'd prayed about which month to visit and felt strongly I was to go in May.  However, I was there and then returned from Califiornia and still didn't know why May was the better choice to visit.

    Now I know.

Farewell, Phil.  I know that you're enjoying a whole body – without pain – in heaven right now.  Thank God for that.  Literally.
  • Swedish home 2

I was catching up in Google Reader on blog reading and apart from being overwhelmed with the number of blog posts remaining to read, I'm becoming disillusioned? bored? tired of? blogs that list things I've seen everywhere or show high fashion or slick dwellings.  Where are the real homes with attainable decor ideas I can get from the photographs?
