• Pretty window seat

Was sitting in Barnes & Noble last night before seeing The Proposal, and was paging through international decor magazines when I saw the name "Abigail Ahern" and made a note to google her.  Found out she has twitter and a blog.  Heavenly.  I've starred and shared almost every one of her blog entries on Google Reader

    Green chair + pretty pillow

She doesn't just share pretty photos (although the photos are stunning); she offers practical advice for personalizing your home.  Isn't that green chair with the gorgeous pillow mesmerizing to look at?!

    Star + rug

Oh.  LOVED The Proposal*.  Was a fluffly, light, funny movie.  I adore films where the family adds to the humor like in  While You Were Sleeping, Must Love Dogs, and Return to Me.

*My friend and I laughed with the movie and at the movie because there were so many contrived parts…but I didn't care.  I laughed and relaxed and laughed again.

*Just reserved Must Love Dogs (it's a combo DVD with You've Got Mail!!) and also Return to Me – from the library.  I love free things.

  • a new-to-me blog: apple likes orange.

Outside my window…blue sky with clouds (reminds me of The Simpsons sky in the opening credits) + lilacs

I am thinking…glad I woke up in time to get to the water class this morning

I am thankful for…the little things – especially when they're unexpected (like a surprise passion tea lemonade from a friend on a hot day)

From the kitchen…leftover tuna pasta salad that I made on Monday night

I am wearing…a fun sundress that looks like a painter's palette – topped by an azure cardi and the outfit is completed by a pair of shiny black ballet flats.. my "shiny shoes"!

I am creating…documents and more documents.  something I'm good at doing!

I am going…to run errands at lunch instead of sitting on my bum and reading during lunch.

I am readingKnit Two – the sequel to The Friday Night Knitting Club

I am hoping…I can learn to do a proper manicure of berry polish that doesn't smudge within 90 seconds.

I am hearinga small oscillating fan

Around the house…A closet containing a plethora of "stuff" – items with no home.  Have been gazing at laura cattano's blog and flickr photos to gain inspiration for living clutter free.

One of my favorite things…this week it has been air conditioning – at home, in the car, in stores… everywhere!

A few plans for the rest of the week: work, see The Proposal, do some crafts with a friend, shop for summer clothes, watch New in Town (current Netflix selection)

Here is picture thought I am sharing

    Cute cups on desk

Call me addicted to drinking beverages in cute cups.  Here are two days' worth of cups.

  • dog days of summer, originally uploaded by perfectbound.

    Happy midweek to you!

It's another SCORCHER in Wisconsin. The coolest spring ever did not prepare me for these hot days.

This photo reminded me of little festivals that come to town and big ol' state fairs. Looks like summer is here for sure.

I wear cardigans as many days as I can – because the office is usually quite cool and because I'm used to layering – after living in San Francisco where layering your wardrobe items is quite necessary.

Thus I found many fun photos in this NY Times slideshow.

  • I'm leaving for lunch and stop in the bathroom.  I wanted something from the cupboard ABOVE the toilet.  (yeah – bet you won't see this coming) and I dislodge a tiny sewing kit that's housed in a crappy plastic case…and the thing falls, cracks open on the toilet tank and the contents cascade beautifully into the toilet full of "clean" water (how clean is toilet water anyway??).

so I yell FREAKIN' CRAP! and realize the only solution is to dip my hands into the water and dig out all the pieces of the sewing kit and toss them away. Confession: I did let one button flush away.

Lovely. Who wants to think of touching food now?! I washed my hands with so much soap, I could have floated away on the bubbles.  Then in the car I remembered I'd found a small bottle of hand sanitizer and had actually put it into my bag. so I dug the bottle out and doused myself..err..my hands with it before even entering the restaurant.

I know this is a daily (hourly?) event for parents…but I'm not a parent.  If I were, I'd probably yell with glee at getting to play in the toilet again.  well..maybe not.

  • kirsten's house, originally uploaded by sunnygirlwi.

This is the house of Kirsten. You'll only find it right here! I was there recently before we took a trip to IKEA, and found PRETTY in every single room.

Kirsten has turned her home into something amazing. The house's good bones + Kirsten's taste = beautiful.

I need to get a plethora of photos to share with you soon.

  • Picked up a copy of Living Etc. the other day….quite thankful that the barnes & noble within 20 miles of home carries this magazine.  I was wowed by three homes featured, and this "arty apartment" got me with the fabric covered cabinet in the bathroom, the pretty hallway and the spacious living room.

More photos can be found here.

  • Just started reading a new-to-me blog:  kelly + olive.  The variety of posts keep me entertained and informed such as this one about transforming a porch. I love the final result.

    Sunroom
It's been a good week so far.  I've not paid much attention to this blog but have been tidying up the apartment and spent the weekend with friends and family – for my birthday, another friend's birthday, and to see family in town.

Then I recommitted to regular attendance at my early morning (5:45 AM!!) water class..and my friend Kathy now loves the class too.  Turns out the class has taught me in other areas of life.

Most class members wade slowly into the shallow end of the cold pool (why oh why can't we have class in the warm therapy pool?!) but I would never enter the pool fully if I waded in.  So that leaves me to jump in at the deep end.  Now who in their right mind wants to jump into a shivering cold pool?  Not me!  So I'd stand at the edge forever before jumping in.

One morning I realized, "I am NEVER going to WANT to jump into the pool" and something clicked in my brain.  I simply stepped forward from the pool's edge and had to deal with what came next (gravity's pull toward the bottom of the pool).  Once I surface to get air, I then am wet and there's nothing to be done about it. So i swim rapidly to the shallow end to join the class that's beginning.  Eventually, of course, we all find the water to be just like bathwater… that's after at least 30 minutes of movement in the water.

Turns out the phrase "I am NEVER going to WANT to _____________" has popped up in other areas of life.  When the alarm goes off at 4:45 AM and I think "two more hours of sleep!  more sleep!"  it finally occurs to me that "I will never feel like getting up to go to work"…. and somehow that brain-clicking thing happens again and I pop out of bed and get ready for class.

The other day, I'd let the kitchen go for more than two days and was avoiding cooking (thus getting takeout more often).  Realized I'd never feel like WOO HOO – time to clean the kitchen!!!  But I set the timer and tackled it.  Turns out it took nine little minutes to clean the kitchen.  I'd left the kitchen alone for days because of nine minutes of work to clean the kitchen?!  crazy.

I've a feeling that phrase about never going to want to do something will help me get through a lot of things.

Or one could call it "growing up".
