I saw these photos of artist Anne Black on Emma’s blog yesterday and was impressed for these reasons:
- The decor/arrangement is intentional. In the room with the clothing rack are a table with a lamp, a telephone, and a chair – quite functional but done in a simple arrangement. The rack of clothing and shoes is obviously functional but the orderly presentation is soothing to the eye.
- The items in the apartment have been pared down to what is lovely and useful. The photo of the kitchen shows aprons on hooks – pretty and ready to use. The open shelves hold the items that are probably used most often.
- Clutter is kept to a minimum.
- The white floors, furniture and walls are an excellent backdrop for the personalization of the space.
- The walls are mostly bare. (I have never been one to fill the walls around me.)
I’ve gotten rid of most of the clutter in my apartment so this post by Emma arrived at a great time. I’d like to pare down my belongings even more. (I have small appliances in the kitchen I don’t use; I’ve a hunch the four small bins in my bathroom closet are filled with little things I don’t need. As always, paperwork, photos and tear sheets abound in a few baskets of their own.)
